Explore stunning biodiversity across a range of ecosystems in the Gold Coast Hinterland. Our tours run for approximately 2.5 hours, and in that time, you will learn about the ecology of fungi, how to identify a variety of species in the field, and how to be a citizen scientist contributing to our understanding of Australian taxonomy.

Learn how to search for wild mushrooms, including prized edible species (please note collection of fungi is not allowed on the tour). Receive tips for photography and participate in a Q&A session where you can access local knowledge and get answers to all of your mushroom-related questions. Participants receive a complimentary booklet titled An Introduction to Mushroom Identification.

Thomas Zdravko is a fungi expert and educator based in the Gold Coast Hinterland. Passionate about building public awareness of fungi and their important role in the ecosystem, Thomas facilitates workshops, presentations, lectures, and guided forays. He specialises primarily in the identification and taxonomy of native Australian fungi, as well as the foraging of edible species.

Thomas is the founder and an administrator of Australia & New Zealand Fungus Identification, the largest fungi identification Facebook group in Australia, with over 60,000 members.
